Frequently Asked Questions.

We’re here to make things simple. Browse our FAQs to learn more about our investment approach, process, and how we work with business owners.

What types of businesses does Alder Bay Equity Partners invest in?

We invest in profitable, privately held companies based in Western Canada. We’re particularly interested in stable businesses with strong leadership, a proven track record, and long-term growth potential.

What is your typical investment structure?
Alder Bay will invest as either a majority shareholder or 50:50 with an existing Management team or Founder(s).
What makes Alder Bay different from other private equity firms?

Alder Bay is not a fund and has no investment turnover mandate. We seek to be long term owners of businesses. Our capital structure is conservative and we avoid the excess use of leverage at our companies. We also prefer to own the underlying real estate of our operating companies rather than lease premises.

What happens to the leadership team after an acquisition?

Our preference is to invest in situations where the key Management or Founders will retain ownership and remain as our partners in the business.

We want our business partners to have and retain a high degree of autonomy.

We are also able to support Management in formulating and executing on their growth plans for the business.

How long do you typically hold your investments?

We prefer to hold our investments for the long run provided that we see ourselves as the natural owner of the business and that the business fits with our long term investment objectives.

Empowering Owners. Growing Together.

At Alder Bay Equity Partners, we collaborate with business owners to navigate succession and growth, providing permanent capital and strategic support to ensure lasting success.

Eric Andrew

Shareholder & Chairman

Eric Andrew is the Chairman and Managing Partner of Alder Bay Equity Partners.

He spent a significant amount of his career sitting across the table from business owners at moments that mattered:

Succession wasn’t working; the family was stuck and not communicating; the numbers were fine but the direction of the company wasn’t; wealth was not accumulating.

He joined Alder Bay Equity Partners because he wanted his advice to carry weight again — the kind that comes from owning the consequences. Alder Bay acquires and grows privately held operating businesses in Western Canada using the partners capital, conservatively leveraged. No fund timelines. No financial engineering. Just real businesses and real people.

Before joining Alder Bay, he spent decades at PwC. He led and built Private Company Services in Canada and helped shape and lead PwC’s Global Private Clients practice. He served as Chair of PwC’s Canadian Partnership Board. He worked in audit, tax, HR, M&A and family governance across a wide number of industries because owners don’t live in silos — and neither do their problems.

Since retiring as a partner of PwC in 2017, he has served on various Boards and Advisory Boards. Outside the boardroom, he stays close to the human side of all this. He works with family councils; supports not-for-profits; maintains a Center for Attitudinal Healing in Costa Rica that holds workshops dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, and fractured relationships — the things that quietly shape how leaders show up at work.
